Carmel is a warm and compassionate person who has been supporting clients in their inner journey of discovery since 1999. She has walked her own path and understands how past influences can impact present ways of thinking and behaving. While knowledge can help us make sense of what is happening in our lives, taking responsibility and appropriate action can help in resolving issues or situations, including coming to terms with those that cannot be changed.
Change is not easy – it takes courage and there is no magic bullet. But there is hope and you can make that change when the time is right for you. She believes that unwanted behaviour is often no more than a defence mechanism to salve underlying pain, for which reason, we cannot judge others or ourselves – only do our best to find a more appropriate way of dealing with the underlying trauma, pain or outdated negative beliefs we hold. Because no single therapy fits all, Carmel’s approach is integrative which means she creates a unique treatment plan for each client and draws from such modalities as psychoanalysis, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), humanistic-existential approaches and other eclectic therapies to match the client’s needs.
Carmel is passionate about helping people just like you and has undertaken various courses and degrees since 1998 to explore every possible tool to bring about change. She holds a first class Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy, a B.Sc.(Hons) degree in Psychology, an Advanced Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy and a Diploma in Supervision amongst other eclectic certifications. She is also an Advanced Practitioner and exam administrator of BrainWorking Recursive Therapy (BWRT®) which attempts to disrupt current negative patterns of thinking for a better outcome. As a fully accredited Psychotherapist with the Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists (APCP) and a member of the European Association of Professional Hypnotherapists, she follows strict Code of Ethics for both associations.
Carmel lectures in Counselling and Psychotherapy at undergraduate level in Dublin and provides academic supervision to Masters students. Her clinic is in Rathgar village and she also facilitates online zoom appointments for clients who prefer not to travel or are domiciled in other countries.
